The classes offered through the Center for Workforce & Professional Development are non-credit.   These classes are not a part of academic degree programming, but may qualify for Credit for Prior Learning.  Non-Credit courses do not quality for Federal and State Financial Aid; however, scholarship funding through CMCC may be available.

Heat Pump Installer Training 

May 22, to May 26, 2023

Monday ~ Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm 

This 40-hour course meets Efficiency Maine Heat Pump Installer Training requirements needed to qualify for rebates.  Using both classroom and hands-on lab instruction, the course covers how to professionally install heat pump indoor and outdoor units including mounting, line sets, ductwork, thermostats and controls.  Students will get hands-on experience installing these state-of-the-art HVAC systems that are revolutionizing heating and cooling. Upon completion of this course and the separately offered EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Handling, the student will qualify to work for Maine contractors installing heat pumps statewide.

NCCER Construction Craft Laborer I

April 18 ~ July 13, 2023

Tuesday and Thursday evenings via Zoom

Construction Craft Laborer Level One is an introductory class designed for those interested in working in the commercial construction sector. The topics covered are Orientation to the Trade, Building Materials, Fasteners and Adhesives, Properties of Concrete, Site Layout Differential Leveling, Handling and Placing Concrete, Foundations and Slabs on Grade. Total classroom and laboratory time is 92.5 hours. Upon completion the student is prepared for a career in Commercial Construction. Please Note: it is recommended that the Core Curriculum class be completed prior to this class. A laptop or desktop computer is required for testing for this course.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The 130-hour Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program consists of 70 hours of classroom time, 20 hours of lab time and 40 hours of clinical work.  Students learn introductory concepts of nursing care, including areas such as anatomy, nutritional care, medication care and disease management. Introduction to Phlebotomy Technician   

June 6 ~ July 28, 2023

Tuesday & Thursday Evenings from 4:00pm to 8:00pm 

Students enrolled in this Phlebotomy course will learn both theory and practical skills. Theory topics will include working in healthcare, health and safety, troubleshooting difficult draws and working with all demographics from neonatal to geriatric patients. Coursework includes selecting and preparing the skin puncture site, collecting specimens, adhering to the proper health and safety guidelines, patient/technician relationship, and proper record keeping of laboratory tests. Learners will be able to sit for the National Healthcareer Association’s Phlebotomy Technician certification exam because the course includes the hands-on live stick component. Upon completion, students may qualify for employment in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, and other health care settings.

Basic Life Support – 4 Hour Course

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the skills to keep people alive until they can be brought to a hospital or be treated with more advanced lifesaving measures. This four-hour course covers adult and pediatric CPR, use of the bag-valve mask, airway obstruction, automated external defibrillation (with child AED update), stroke and cardiac arrest and other special resuscitation situations.

All instructional materials will be provided upon arrival and are included in the cost of the course.

The successful completion of a certification exam in this training results in a credential being awarded and is subject to recertification, based on specific industry standards. Recertification is the responsibility of the participant to ensure it is completed prior to the credential’s expiration date.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose.
