How to use mymathlab

The course content (including quizzes, midterm, and final) are accessed through a website administered by Pearson (the book's publisher).  The website is http://www.mymathlab.com and you can get to it by clicking the link in this sentence.  All the instructional materials (including lectures, worked out examples, etc) are available there.  The site is set up in such a way that if you make a mistake as you do the homework it will redirect you to a choice of text, lecture, or other worked examples on that particular subject.

One of the trickiest parts to get used to is that the program is a bit particular about how you put answers in.  Chapter 0, though not assigned, helps you get oriented to that task so I recommend spending a little time there before you start the sequence.  Also, the first activites are homework and a quiz on the first three chapters.  Those chapters deal with basic arithmetic and should require no new instruction.  But I do recommend reviewing the first three chapters prior to taking the first quiz as it does count in the grading scheme.

You will need to have two keys to get onto the mymathlab site to access the course materials.  The first key is the mymathlab course ID which is rattray90374.  The second key is the access code that comes with your "book package".  You have two options for the second key.  One is to buy the book with mymathlab access as sold through the CMCC book store.  You can also buy that combination from pearson.com.  ISBN for text and access code is 9780133906226.  The second option is to buy just the mymathlab access.  ISBN for access code only is 9780321937063.   That option provides the entire text online (actually, either option provides the entire text online, but some folks prefer a physical copy of the text).  You can then print pages if you care to, but you get all the course material (including lectures and demonstrations) in either case.

After your first visit to mymathlab, you can just sign in.  So be careful in getting your user name in and make note of the password you use.  On your subsequent visits you enter those and click on the course ID and you are in!

Once you have the access code go to mymathlab.com and follow the instructions that come with your mymathlab access code.  If you have used mymathlab before, you can sign in and look for the course ID.  If you are a new user to mymathlab, you will need to register (registration instructions are on the mymathlab webpage).  If you have any trouble getting to the course material, email me at grattray@cmcc.edu.

Once you are in you can work your way through the course by doing all the chapters in order.
