Organic Chemistry II Lecture (CHY 251)
Term: 2017-2018 Spring Semester
Tue-Thu, 9:30 AM - 10:55 AM (1/16/2018 - 5/7/2018) Location: CMCC TWR 303
CHY 251 Organic Chemistry II Lecture3 credits (3 Lecture, 0 Lab, 0 Shop)3 hrs/wk (3 hrs lecture) * 15 weeksOrganic Chemistry is the branch of chemical science engaged in understanding the structure, function, behavior, and reactivity of molecules containing carbon. Organic Chemistry II Lecture includes functional aspects of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons with various heteroatom functionalities. Discussion focuses on the mechanistic basis for organic compound reactivity for saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons and approaches to synthetic design. In addition, modern analytical techniques such as infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H & 13C) used in the identification of organic compounds will be discussed. Co-requisite: CHY 252 Organic Chemistry II Lab. Pre-requisites: C or better in CHY 221/222 Organic Chemistry 1 Lecture and Lab.
