CHY 221 Organic Chemistry I Lecture3 Credits (3 Lecture, 0 Lab, 0 Shop)3 hrs/wk (3 hrs lecture) * 15 weeksOrganic Chemistry is the study of the chemistry of compounds containing carbon. Organic Chemistry I Lecture is the first half of a comprehensive one-year course suitable for science majors. The first semester course includes structural and functional aspects of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons with various heteroatom functionalities. Discussion focuses on the mechanistic basis for organic compound reactivity. Co-requisite: CHY 222 Organic Chemistry I Lab. Prerequisites: C or better in CHY 123/124 General Chemistry II Lecture and Lab.
